All of us have to deal with death at one time or another, but to have in one's heart a solid conviction concerning the reality of eternal life is to bring a sense of peace in an hour of tragedy and loss that can come from no other source under the heavens.

- President Gordon B. Hinkley, Stand A Little Taller, 2001

Dear Missionaries, Families and Friends,

Nearly a week has passed since our reunion and I thought it might be good to just recap what transpired at that event for the benefit of those who were unable to come and mingle with us.

It was a beautiful day, what with clear blue sky, reasonable temperature and brilliant colors of fall leaves. Folks began to gather shortly before 5:00 p.m. and from then forward, it was a marvelous time.

By then, the fire in the pit had burned down to coals and with just an occasional log or two, it was a simple matter to keep it lovely throughout the evening. To help furnish a bit more heat, we had secured two propane gas fired space heaters, which made it very comfortable for the crowd to stand nearby and be very cozy.

The table was spread with a variety of good things to eat. All of the following could be found throughout the afternoon and evening: Wieners, buns, assorted relishes and condiments, chicken taco salad, assorted chips and dips, vegetable trays and dips, Scottish Broth, and assorted fruit crisp topped with ice cream to finish everything off. I don?t think that anyone went away hungry.

Of course, the main item was to visit with companions, friends, anyone and everyone. It was a relaxed and pleasant time together. I won?t try to name everyone who came for fear of leaving someone off the list. There were 60+ who came together. One great thing that happened occurred as we were closing down for the evening. Everyone present picked up something and carried it into the kitchen. It was all moved in moments to the inside, which made it very easy to clean up and put away.

Special mention must be made of a few who helped much. Robert and LaRae Crandall, Jim and Sharon Fitch, Johnathan and Elissa Liddle all came early and helped to set things up. Johnathan cooked all of the wieners. And Elaine Jarrett also came early and brought the assortment of chips, which were superb. Special thanks to them all for helping out spontaneously.

This worked out so well, that next year we will probably try for a repeat.

Although there were not many of parking places, everyone cooperated and it worked out very well.

We do want to say "thank you" to all who came. You made it a lovely evening.

Only one thing was a bit troublesome, and that was the traffic. Most everyone commented about the traffic, which was very heavy and slow. That seems to be the situation where ever we hold the affair. I don?t know what the explanation might be.

Again, thanks to everyone. It is grand to get together.

To those who couldn?t make it this year, plan on coming next year. It is always on the Friday evening before the October Conference.

Sincerely,

Pres. and Sister Clyde
