What a marvelous thing it is to belong to a society whose purposes are noble, whose accomplishments are tremendous, whose work is uplifting, even heroic. Be loyal to the Church under all circumstances. This is your church. You have embraced its gospel. You have taken upon yourselves a covenant in the waters of baptism. Be proud of your membership in this great cause and kingdom which He has restored to earth in this, the last dispensation of the fulness of times. Why? To bring you happiness.

- President Gordon B. Hinkley, Stand A Little Taller, 2001

Dear Missionaries,

Just a note, because I felt you would all like to know, if you did not already catch the obituary of one of our finest, Sister Eleise Smith, who served two years with us as Mission Secretary and Accountant (her husband Mearle Smith). She passed away last Tuesday and the funeral was last Saturday. Many of you were privileged to have your lives touched by this wonderful couple. Missionary work was such an important part of their lives. Many of their children served missions. Mearle served a mission as a young man and the two of them served two missions, one in the Utah Provo Mission (doing the same things they did in Scotland) and the other in the SEM. Mearle also was in a Branch Presidency at the Missionary Training Center in Provo for several years while I was there.

Some of you had the privilege of being invited to their flat in Edinburgh for lovely meals. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She made a difference in this world.

Right now, Mearle and his family could use some of your love and support. If you have a moment, please write a short note to them and let them know of your support. The email address is: mbsmith@lehi.net

Sister Clyde and I both caught nasty colds while in Tucson visiting our son, Lance, and family. But we are on the mend and turning our thoughts to the reunion at the April General Conference. We hope to see you there.

Until then, know we delight in hearing from you.

With love to all,

Norman and Phyllis
